Tofino / Ucluelet Images

Revised December 7, 2018

This workshop has been in the planning stages for at least 2 years.  I personally have photographed in the Tofino / Ucluelet area at least 25 times.  I can't wait to show you the hidden spots and how to create images in these unique locations.

The workshop will include beaches (sandy and rocky) around Tofino and Ucluelet, old growth forests of Meares Island, Black Bears of Fortune Channel / Gunner Inlet (charter with Browning Passage), and an optional aerial photo shoot over Tofino!!!  This will be an action packed 5 days full of learning and adventure.

We will set aside time for an optional aerial shoot in a Bell 206 helicopter (with doors off but safely tapped on the buckles).  This is an incredible experience and such a different way to experience photography.  Price will range from $300-$500 for each person depending on how many decide to participate (might require two shifts).  A Bell 206 can take 3 people photographing + pilot.  No need to pay in advance as I can arrange a time the week prior and discuss with participants on the spot.  You also do not have to participate as Shane or I will be available to instruct when the other is on the aerial shoot.

Our base for this workshop will be the Tin Wis Best Western Hotel located right on McKenzie Beach in Tofino.  A dedicated meeting space for image review / editing have be reserved at the Tin Wis too.

Detailed itinerary and welcome handbook will be emailed upon registration.  The below intinerary is rough due to tides and general weather conditions (which is usually very nice in late June)

Hiking details

A good physical fitness is required for daily hikes up to 2-3 km in length (small rocks and dirt hiking trails around Tofino and Ucluelet beaches are fine with decent hiking boots). If you have mobility concerns please contact myself directly for clarification.

Day 1

Thursday  - meet at the Best Western Tin Wis lobby at 2pm.  Meet and greet will be between 2-4pm (details on welcome handout after registration).  We will then have dinner and get ready for our first evening shoot.  There will always be personal time set aside each day (1-2 hours) to rest, download images, etc.

Day 2

Friday - This morning will be devoted to Black Bears in Fortune Channel (or Gunner Inlet) due to low tide at approx. 10:15am.  Meet at the Tin Wis lobby around 8:30am.  Return early to mid afternoon.  We will do an evening sunset shoot likely in Tofino.

This evening will also be set aside for an optional aerial shoot in a Bell 206 helicopter (with doors off).  This is an incredible experience and such a different way to experience photography.  Details above.

Day 3

Saturday - This morning will be the Meares Island old growth forest shoot - about a 10-15 minute boat ride from Tofino.  The hike is very easy but can take a few hours due to stopping for photos.  Return late morning / early afternoon.  Image processing and review will be in the afternoon.  Eveing sunset shoot either in Tofino or Uclulet.

This evening will also be set aside for an optional aerial shoot in a Bell 206 helicopter (with doors off).  This is an incredible experience and such a different way to experience photography.  Details above.

Day 4

Sunday - Morning shoot around Ucluelet including the Wild Pacific Trail, Florencia Beach, etc.  In depth image editing and review in the afternoon in our dedicated meeting space at the Tin Wis Hotel.  Evening shoot like in Tofino - Cox Bay, Chesterman Beach, McKenzie Beach, etc.
